25 Years of Gratitude

In the late 1990s, my father decided to capitalize on his manufacturing expertise and take the leap to open a company. With my mother and I on board, Springs & Things was incorporated as a true family business.

We settled on a workspace, and I painted all the interior walls to give us a fresh start. We began purchasing spring-making machines and accessory equipment. Now all we needed were customers!

Our first marketing investments were modest – mainly listings in trade publications and a small ad in the Yellow Pages. Luckily, word travelled quickly that Leo Costello had his own shop and some customers who knew Dad’s reputation began to place orders.

Our first customer was a small business owner who made mail slot covers. He was able to punch out the aluminium components for his product, but needed custom return springs manufactured to make it function. We were happy to help.

Soon after, a large spring manufacturer was in the midst of moving locations and was thrilled to have our shop handle their overflow production. Alliances have continued to be an important part of our industry – helping other spring companies with their prototypes and jobs of all sizes. And in return, when we have a need for specialized equipment we don’t have in-house to meet a client’s requirements, we connect with these trusted partners. It was pretty rare for us to turn down a project in those early days… we found a way to make it happen. And still do.

A lot has changed over the past 25 years. One important step in our evolution was the receipt of our ISO 9001 Certification in 2018, after updating our already quality-driven processes to an international standard.

Although we’re still in the same location, our footprint is now four times its original size. We have customers who continually push our limits and help us grow. We have owner-entrepreneur customers who might place one small order every 5 years. And other corporate customers who have large monthly orders that have been with us for over 20 years. Together, these clients have seen us through times of economic booms and struggles.

Sadly, we lost my Mom in 2015. And my Dad has, for the most part, retired from day-to-day operations. But that doesn’t make Springs & Things any less of a family business. With incredibly dedicated staff members, some who’ve been here for decades, we are every bit a family.

So as I reflect on Springs & Things 25th Anniversary, I’m filled with gratitude. I’m thankful for the ongoing love and support I receive from my family. I’m thankful for the amazing team members who make Springs & Things a joyful place to work. And I’m thankful for each and every customer who collaborates with us, from the moment an idea is on a scratchpad (or iPad), to the time the exact part they envisioned has been manufactured and is heading out the door.

We look forward to serving you for the next 25 years!
